In 2014 the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation launched a funding initiative in Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Systems and in January 2015 our group was awarded an Experimental Investigator grant of $1.8 million over five years.
Funding from the Moore Foundation is enabling our group to invest in new equipment and pursue new directions in optical spectroscopy. In the area of time-domain THz spectroscopy, we aim to extend phase-sensitive detection and high-resolution polarimetry to the 1-20 THz range. In visible and near-IR spectroscopy, we will add the dimension of spatial resolution to sensitive pump-probe and time-resolved Kerr techniques using scanning confocal microscopy.
